‘Am I a Wolf?’ to vie at Annecy filmfest

Iranian animated piece ‘Am I a Wolf?’ has been set to compete at the 2019 edition of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France.

Directed by Amir-Houshang Moein, ‘Am I a Wolf?’ will vie at the Perspectives section of the 2019 Annecy.

The 8-minute award-winning animation was able to successfully take home numerous awards at the 11th Tehran International Animation Festival (TIAF) last week.

Based on the fantasy book by Afsaneh Shabannejad, the animation is a recreation of the classic fable of ‘The Wolf and the Lamb’,

In ‘Am I a Wolf?’, a number of students are performing a theater called ‘The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats’. Everybody has a role.

They are totally getting carried away by their roles in a way that the border between reality and theatrical performance is now hardly realized.

Meanwhile, the child acting as the wolf in the story is scripted to be defeated. That makes him feel lonely and annoyed.

As he takes his role too seriously, a bit of chaos startles the group. In the end, the presence of other children and his friends next to him take him out of this atmosphere.

The animation has gone on screen at the 2019 International Children’s Film Festival in Bangladesh and is also scheduled to vie at the 29th annual World Festival of Animated Film Zagreb – Animafest Zagreb – in Croatia.

It will compete with 21 other titles from Ghana, Saudi Arabia, the UK, Canada, China, Croatia, South Korea, the US, Colombia, Greece, Brazil, Estonia, Lithuania, and Peru.

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival, created in 1960, is one of the four international animated film festivals sponsored by the Association Internationale du Film d'Animation (ASIFA).

This edition of the festival is slated for June 10-15, 2019.
